Hiking Old Chalkiopoulos - Kanala peak

In the heart of Greece, between Aitoloakarnania and Evrytania, where the imposing Agrafa embrace nature, a landscape of authentic beauty unfolds around Kremasta Lake. Our experience begins from the historic village of Palio Chalkiopoulos (850m), a place full of tradition and tranquility.

From there, we enter a magnificent forest with towering fir trees, where nature reigns supreme. First stop at the fire station – observatory at 1,100m, with breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

We continue towards the cave of Saint Andrew the Hermit, a hidden spiritual refuge within Mount Kanala. There, we will discover a small chapel with rare 14th century hagiographies, dedicated to Panagia Platytera and important Hierarchs, while behind the sanctuary lies the tomb of the Saint.

The route culminates with the climb to the top of Mount Kanala (1,520m), where the view reveals a unique setting: Kremasta Lake spreads out like a mirror between "Greek fjords", creating unforgettable images.

The area belongs to the Natura 2000 network and is home to rare wildlife species, such as vultures and other protected birds, offering an authentic experience of contact with nature.
